GINA'S BIRTHDAY
It's My Story and I'm Sailin' with it...!
Calm Water...Morning Sunrise attempting to breakthrough the layers of fog. Twenty
six miles to Catalina Island. Favorite getaway for one of this captain's favorite
actors, Robert Wagner. It's quiet, just a hum of the engine as we raced across the
Pacific. Then, amid waiting for a mooring, we picked a spot away from everyone,
(so I thought) and dropped anchor. We rocked and drifted sideways and back
again. Then, trouble in paradise..
The anchor line was twisted with another boaters line. Maneuvering the boat to
loosen our line was a waste of time and effort. The man who manned that vessel
was too busy to be of any assistance. Wonder how fast he would get dressed if
we had been pirates !
I see a character change in the captain. Visions of spinach, a pipe and a goofy
looking Popeye. He was going in. My hero. I knew he would save his Olive Oyl,
(me). But like, Olive Oyl, I never had charge of a this plaything, this yacht. I had a
quick lesson, this is forward and this is reverse. GREAT. Ok, I can do this, and I did.
However, he never told me the part about how HE WOULD DISAPPEAR AND I
COULDN'T SEE HIM OVER THE BOW ! In good time, he surfaced and with all the
anxiety and adrenalin rushing through me, I pulled him up from the cold, frigid water
with the force of Popeye.
Two Morals of the story:
Be a good boater, HELP OUT YOUR FELLOW BOATERS....and
EAT YOUR SPINACH
